This is my friend Maynor. This was his first triathlon. He practiced more than eight months to be ready for it and there he was that morning, ready to see if his blood and sweat he shed and dripped was enough to finish what we both considered insane the previous summer. We were both regular party people then, chatting about crazy things. About what we could and not do.

And there we were, almost a year later, me trying to become good at taking pictures of him running the crazy race. I was excited, scared, and mostly, proud of him.

See, the thing is, Maynor registered for the triathlon…BEFORE HE KNEW HOW TO SWIM!

He spent 8 months learning to float, crawl and get to the end of the pool 5 times a week. He did run and bike (because it is also part of the race) but the focus for him always was from the beginning, the swim.

So, were these months enough training? That’s what we came to see.
